During recent negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the U.S. offered Ukraine security guarantees for a 15-year term with the possibility of extension. However, the Ukrainian leader expressed a desire for this term to be extended to 30–40–50 years. He shared this information with journalists in voice messages in the president's office chat.

Zelensky noted that preliminary security agreements were coordinated by his team, and further discussions took place during the meeting with Trump. "The documents specify 15 years, but we have been at war for almost 15 years already, and I would like the guarantees to be longer," he added, emphasizing that Trump promised to "think" about his request.

In addition, the Ukrainian president stated that Trump discussed the peace plan "point by point" with Vladimir Putin during a recent phone call. This plan consists of 20 points, and the American president reported that Putin is ready for some steps. However, Zelensky warned that this is not the first time Putin has made promises but failed to fulfill them. "It is important that words match actions," he added.

Zelensky also emphasized that the U.S. is ready to support Ukraine if Russia refuses the peace agreement and continues the conflict. He noted that it is planned to "solidify" the peace plan in a referendum.

In the evening on the day of the negotiations, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky met at Trump's residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. Following the meeting, the leaders announced that the peace plan is already agreed upon by 90–95%, and the security guarantees are at 100%. However, the parties could not reach an agreement regarding the status of Donbas and other Ukrainian territories controlled by Russia.
