Trump, commenting on the results of the meeting, described it as a "wonderful" and "magnificent conversation" that brought the parties closer to ending the conflict. He noted that about 95% of the conditions for the peace agreement have been agreed upon, however, the key issue remains the ownership of the Donbass regions, which, in his opinion, requires further discussion. Before the negotiations began, Zelensky expressed hope for an active diplomatic day, noting that some decisions could be made as early as 2025.
Zelensky, for his part, stated that there is 90% agreement on the 20-point peace plan, as well as a 100% security guarantee between the US and Ukraine. He added that security guarantees for Ukraine, which include the US and Europe, are also practically achieved, as reported by Deutsche Welle.
After the negotiations, the Ukrainian president emphasized that the issue of Donbass remains relevant, and Ukraine has a clear position that differs from Russia's. He noted that for achieving lasting peace, security guarantees are more important than territorial issues.
Zelensky also mentioned that the Ukrainian team will continue working on the agreement with European politicians, and the discussions could be concluded in the coming weeks. Additionally, he did not rule out the possibility of holding a referendum on certain points of the peace plan.
Trump, responding to journalists' questions, emphasized the importance of quickly concluding deals on territories, noting that Ukraine has shown "great courage" and inflicted significant damage on the opponent. He added that the conflict "needs to come to an end" and expressed his willingness to speak before the Ukrainian parliament to explain the necessity of the peace agreement. To this, Zelensky diplomatically replied: "You are always welcome."
