After U.S. President Donald Trump called for new elections in Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his readiness to participate in the voting, but under two key conditions, as reported by "RBK-Ukraine".

In an interview published on December 9 by Politico, Trump noted that elections had not been held in Ukraine for a long time.

He emphasized: "They talk about democracy, but at some point, it's no longer democracy."

Zelensky, for his part, refuted claims that the authorities are clinging to power, and that is why the war continues, calling such opinions inadequate.

According to the President of Ukraine, two important issues must be resolved to organize elections: the security of voting in conditions of military action and the legislative basis for its legitimacy. As reported by "RBK-Ukraine", he appealed to the U.S. and European partners for assistance in creating conditions for voting.

"I am ready for elections and ask the U.S., possibly together with European colleagues, to ensure security for their conduct. In this case, Ukraine will be able to prepare for elections within 60-90 days," he added.

Zelensky also urged lawmakers to develop legislative changes regarding elections under martial law and expressed hope for the prompt development of relevant proposals.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly raised the issue of the legitimacy of the Ukrainian president while discussing the possibility of a peace treaty. It should be noted that Zelensky's term expires on May 21, 2024.

Although holding extraordinary presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine is theoretically possible during martial law, organizing voting under such conditions carries serious risks for political stability, as noted by "RBK-Ukraine".
