Trump noted that despite the complexity of the situation, many are interested in the successful implementation of this idea. "It's a very complicated situation, but it will work, and many people want it to work," he added.

According to the publication Politico, which cites its sources in Kyiv, the Ukrainian response to the proposed U.S. peace plan includes a provision for the creation of a demilitarized "free economic zone" in Donbas. The Financial Times, in turn, reported that this plan implies recognition by the international community of this zone as part of Russia.

In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that as early as 2022, Moscow had proposed to Kyiv to withdraw troops from Donbas and end the conflict. According to him, after the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kyiv, the Ukrainian side rejected this proposal and expressed its intention to continue the fight.

In November, Washington presented a 28-point plan to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, which caused dissatisfaction in Kyiv and among European allies. On November 23, consultations took place between the U.S. and Ukraine in Geneva to discuss changes to this document.

Later, Trump reported that the American plan had been revised taking into account the positions of both sides, and only a few contentious points remain. American representatives also held negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Florida and with Russian officials in Moscow.

Nevertheless, on December 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that a new version of the peace plan would be presented based on his meetings with European leaders. He clarified that the number of points had been reduced from 28 to 20, but a compromise on the territorial issue had not yet been reached. On December 11, ABC News reported that Kyiv had sent the updated 20-point plan to Washington.
