
Over the past three years, there has been a decline in the population growth rate: in 2024 it was 2.2%, and in 2025 it was 2%. Nevertheless, Uzbekistan continues to be the most populous country in Central Asia and demonstrates high population growth rates.
Moreover, the number of urban residents is also increasing, and as of today, the urban population constitutes 50.9%. At the same time, the share of the rural population has decreased to 49.1%.
According to last year's data, 1.2 thousand people moved to Uzbekistan for permanent residence, while 10.1 thousand people left the country.
The population of the capital, Tashkent, as of January 1, 2026, was 3,178.1 thousand people, confirming the city's status as the largest in Central Asia.
