Eric Dane, an American actor known for his significant roles in the series "Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria," passed away on February 19, 2026. The cause of death was a severe illness - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The actor battled this ailment for nearly a year after being diagnosed in 2025.
In the final days of his life, Dane was surrounded by loved ones: family and friends, as well as his wife and two daughters. The actor's family requested that those around them respect their privacy during this difficult time.
Eric Dane's popularity was largely tied to his outstanding work in well-known television projects, such as:
- "Grey's Anatomy" - where he played Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan, who became one of the audience's favorite characters and brought the actor worldwide fame;
- "Euphoria" - in this HBO series, he portrayed the complex and multifaceted role of Cal Jacobs.
In April 2025, the actor opened up to the public about his ALS diagnosis while continuing to actively work and participate in professional projects. Despite the fact that this disease gradually limited his physical abilities, Dane did not withdraw into himself and began advocating for awareness of the illness and support for other patients.
