According to the ministry, one of the key factors contributing to the increase in birth rates has been the rise in the number of registered marriages. Ministry representative Park Hyun Jung noted that the number of marriages has been increasing for 21 months, starting from April 2024 and ending in December 2025. This is related to many couples who postponed their weddings due to the COVID-19 pandemic finally deciding to take this step.

As a result, South Korea is witnessing an increase in the birth rate, which has been one of the lowest in the world in recent years. If in 2023 this figure dropped to a record low of 0.72, in 2024 it rose to 0.75, and in 2025 it increased to 0.8. However, this level is still significantly below the necessary threshold of 2.1 to maintain the country's population of 51 million people.
