According to Trump, “these are the last moments of the old life for Cuba. It will have a magnificent new future. Right now, our main focus is on Iran, but we will finish this task soon,” he noted.
The President also addressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio, inquiring what he would do after the Iranian issue is resolved. “Maybe he can rest for just an hour, and then deal with negotiations on Cuba — it will be quite simple,” Trump added.
Earlier, Trump emphasized that Cuba would become a priority for the U.S. after Iran, noting that the fall of the Cuban government is “a matter of time.” He pointed out that Havana “is so eager for a deal that you can’t even imagine.” He also mentioned plans to send Rubio to negotiate with the Cuban side.
In August 2025, the U.S. began to build up its forces in the Caribbean. Since September, American military forces have started attacking ships they believe are linked to drug trafficking. At the end of January 2026, Trump announced a state of emergency in the country due to a national security threat from Cuba.
