The Pentagon has approached the White House with a request for permission to prepare a request to Congress for over $200 billion for the needs of the war with Iran, according to information from The Washington Post. According to three sources familiar with the situation, this amount significantly exceeds the funds already allocated for military operations. It is planned that the funds received will be directed towards an urgent increase in the production of essential types of weapons that have been used during military actions against Iran.
Some officials close to the president express doubts that the Pentagon's request will be approved. A source in the WP reports that many Democrats in Congress will oppose this initiative.
Interviewees for the newspaper also mentioned that over the past two weeks, the Pentagon has proposed several funding options. However, the final amount that the Department of Defense plans to request from Congress remains unknown.
It is reported that expenses for military actions in Iran have already exceeded $11 billion in the first week of the conflict. The Financial Times previously reported that the Trump administration has depleted stocks of critically important munitions, intended for long-term use, including long-range Tomahawk missiles, since the beginning of the conflict with Iran.
