
Seema Malhotra, the UK Minister responsible for Indo-Pacific relations, will visit Mongolia from March 23 to 25. She will participate in a political roundtable organized jointly with Mongolia's Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.
The meeting will focus on discussing issues related to bilateral relations, economy, trade, investments, and the geopolitical situation, as well as outlining further steps to strengthen cooperation.
During her visit, the minister also plans to visit the Oyu Tolgoi mine and discuss opportunities for collaboration on the metro construction project in Ulaanbaatar. Additionally, she will meet with alumni of the UK government’s Chevening scholarship program, as well as representatives of civil society and women leaders in politics and business.
The UK is actively involved in enhancing the qualifications of English language teachers in Mongolia. As part of this project, about 740 educators from remote regions have been trained, reaching over 140,000 students. Seema Malhotra will meet with the teachers and students involved in this initiative, as well as with representatives from the Ministry of Education and UNICEF, who are jointly implementing the project.
Responding to questions about her visit, Minister Seema Malhotra noted: “Mongolia is an important democratic partner for the UK. Sixty years ago, we became the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership and create a safer and more prosperous future for both countries. We have made significant progress, including enabling English language teachers to reach over 147,000 students in Mongolia and working together to implement British technologies and engineering solutions in major projects such as the first metro in Ulaanbaatar.”
Seema Malhotra is a British politician of Indian descent, representing the Cooperative Party in Parliament, nominated by the Labour Party. She is the MP for Feltham and Heston and serves as the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet.
Born on August 7, 1972, in London. She graduated from the University of Warwick and then obtained a master's degree in business and information studies from Aston University. She previously worked as a management consultant at Accenture and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is the founder and head of the Fabian Women’s Network and was the chair of the youth organization of the Fabian Society — Young Fabians.
