The visit of Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong to Mongolia was timed to coincide with the strategic dialogue between the two countries. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.
From February 10 to 12, 2026, Sun Weidong, Deputy Foreign Minister of China, was on a visit to Mongolia, where he held meetings with Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav and Foreign Minister Batsetseg Batmunkh. In addition, he participated in the Seventh Strategic Dialogue between the two foreign ministries alongside Mongolia's Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren. The Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia, Shen Minjuan, also attended the events.
According to Sun Weidong, the successful development of Chinese-Mongolian relations under the strategic guidance of both states benefits not only the peoples of the countries but also contributes to ensuring peace and prosperity in the region.
China expressed its readiness for further cooperation with Mongolia, based on key agreements reached between the leaders of the two countries, while it is important to consider the core interests and issues of each side. The parties intend to deepen interaction in various fields and jointly develop a Chinese-Mongolian community with a shared future.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China is open to active cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between our countries,” he added.
The Mongolian side confirmed that the development of ties with China remains an important priority in its foreign policy. Furthermore, Mongolia will adhere to the principle of "one China," regarding Taiwan and other internal affairs of China as important issues.
Mongolia supports China's efforts to promote the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity and highly values the principles of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation, expressing gratitude for support in economic and social development.
Mongolia intends to focus on deeper interaction with China, developing practical cooperation, promoting the "Belt and Road" initiative, and serving as an example for neighboring states.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current international and regional issues, agreeing on the need to follow the UN Charter and the fundamental norms governing international relations, as well as to work towards creating a fairer global governance system.
