A group of pensioners involved in drug business has been exposed in Uzbekistan

As a result of operational actions carried out by local authorities, one of the couriers—a senior man—was detained, and drugs were found on him. During the investigation, other members of the group were identified. One detainee had 5 grams of drugs seized, while another had cash.

During a search of the house of the alleged group leader, a significant quantity of prohibited substances was found: 12 packages of opium weighing over 12 kilograms, as well as devices for its consumption.

In connection with this, a criminal case has been initiated, and all suspects are under arrest. Investigative actions are ongoing.

Additionally, in November 2025, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, approved a project for a National Program aimed at combating drug-related crime. The program includes over 100 activities aimed at prevention and combating drug trafficking and is scheduled for 2025-2026.

The need for such measures arose against the backdrop of alarming statistics: since the beginning of 2025, more than 11,000 drug-related crimes have been registered, and about 2.5 tons of drugs have been seized. New types of narcotic substances and methods of their distribution appear every year.

As part of this program, initiatives have also been proposed to tighten criminal liability for drug-related crimes, especially concerning youth.
