In the center of Rome, a medieval tower collapsed twice: there are casualties
In the center of Rome, near the famous Colosseum, part of the medieval Conti tower collapsed, as reported by Corriere della Sera.

The collapse occurred at the Imperial Forums, where the Conti tower, built in the 9th century, was undergoing reconstruction. An hour and a half after the first incident, a second collapse occurred. As a result of these incidents, preliminary reports indicate that four people were injured.

Rescuers are working to extract a worker who was trapped under the rubble on the first floor. Due to the emergency situation, traffic in the vicinity of the tower has been closed, and pedestrian access is prohibited.

The tower was built in the 850s at the initiative of Count Anagni Pietro dei Conti and was expanded in the 13th century. It belonged to the influential Conti family, which produced numerous cardinals, as well as four popes and one antipope.

According to the BBC, one of the workers who was rescued from the debris died in the hospital.
