According to information received from the Afghan news portal AVA-press, the famous Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, the administrative center of Balkh province in northern Afghanistan, has been partially damaged as a result of the earthquake.

This mosque is an important symbol of the city and is considered one of the possible burial sites of Ali — the fourth righteous caliph and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad.

As reported by representatives of the security service of the Rose-e-Sharif mausoleum, part of the external facade of the building collapsed during yesterday's earthquake, including tiles and minarets, the source noted.

According to information from the staff, "the internal structures of the dome and the main columns remain intact and show no signs of damage."
