According to Orunbekov, the prisoners were subordinate to a "thief in law," who only cared for his accomplices, while the others experienced need and hunger.
“Every month, the convicted individuals collected money and various items, which were then handed over to this ‘thief in law.’ Thus, hundreds of millions ended up in his pocket, making him a dollar billionaire. Now the state has seized these billions and directed them towards improving conditions for the prisoners,” he noted.
The head of the press service added that factories, workshops, poultry farms, and livestock breeding operations now function in prisons. Prisoners receive salaries for their work and can send money to their families.
“There is no longer a division between ‘the poor’ and ‘the privileged.’ All prisoners are now equal and have the same rights,” Orunbekov concluded.
