Russia and France exchanged prisoners
During a recent prisoner exchange, Russia and France conducted a deal in which French scientist Laurent Vignatier, recognized as a foreign agent in Russia, was handed over in exchange for basketball player Daniil Kasatkin.

Daniil Kasatkin, who had been under arrest in France since June 2025, was detained at the request of the United States, which suspects him of cyber fraud. According to U.S. authorities, the athlete was involved in ransom negotiations, although Kasatkin himself denies all charges. According to his lawyer, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu did not sign the extradition order despite the court's decision.

In turn, Russia released Laurent Vignatier, who was detained in 2024. Vignatier, who worked at the Swiss Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, was sentenced to three years in prison for violating foreign agent legislation. He gathered information on military activities and mobilization in Russia by meeting with sources. At the trial, Vignatier admitted his guilt and expressed remorse, and before the exchange, he was pardoned by presidential decree.
