In Ukraine, at least 163,000 Russian soldiers have died — investigation

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting from February 24, 2022, and up to January 13, 2026, confirmed losses among Russian servicemen amount to at least 163,606 individuals, reports Deutsche Welle. This data was collected by journalists from the Russian service of the BBC and the publication "Mediazona" with the participation of volunteers based on information from open sources.

The most vulnerable age group among the deceased is men aged 36-38 years (15,997 individuals), followed by servicemen aged 33-35 years (15,673 individuals). It is worth noting that the compiled list is not exhaustive, as not all information about losses is available to the public.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as of December 12, 2025, the estimated losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the war have reached 1,186,480 individuals, including the killed and wounded.

Last week, the duration of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine on the night of February 24, 2022, reached 1,418 days, which corresponds to the time elapsed since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. This event occurred on January 11, when the war initiated by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin equaled in duration to historical conflicts of the past.
