In Kazakhstan, more than 2,000 convicts have been released from prisons, as reported by the committee of the criminal-executive system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country.

An amnesty was declared in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of last year, courts have considered nearly 16,000 petitions from inmates. As a result, more than 2,000 people, including women and minors, have gained their freedom. Sentences were reduced for more than 11,000 convicts. Among them, 2,888 individuals registered with probation services were released from their sentences, and the terms for more than 7,600 others were also shortened.

It is important to note that the amnesty did not affect cases related to corruption, extremism, terrorism, crimes against children, torture, and recidivism.
