Other livestock markets have closed. Authorities assured that the process would now be more convenient and safe. However, how do market participants actually perceive this? We visited the new location and gathered opinions.
Buyers' Opinion: A Bit Far, But Tolerable
One buyer shares: "Previously, we bought closer to home, at the markets in Maevka and Bayet. Now, although I have to travel to the outskirts of the city, I haven't noticed much difference since I have a car for transportation," he notes. "The move to a new location, in my opinion, is a good step to avoid chaos. The conditions here pleasantly surprised me — everything is very comfortable."However, another buyer expresses dissatisfaction:
"The modern market is certainly good. But it was more convenient for me to visit the 'Zhantai' market, which was closer to home. I spent 500 soms on transportation to the center, and considering the livestock, the cost of the trip significantly increases. Closing 'Zhantai' was unnecessary, as people would have had a choice of where to go."
"I have only seen such organization of trade in Kazakhstan. Now we have such conditions too, it's nice to work," says one of the traders.Sellers note that the old markets were dirty and cramped, while the new market is organized according to a schedule, significantly improving working conditions.
Comfort Comes at a Cost
However, the rent at the new "Altyn-Kazyk" market is about 10,000 soms higher compared to previous locations.A trader shares: "Previously, the rent was lower."
He explains this by the need to maintain a staff of cleaners and the new infrastructure.
Additionally, a veterinarian adds that if a sick animal is identified, it will be immediately sent for treatment, and the premises will be disinfected.
