A recent decision by the Supreme Court established that candidates for parliamentary elections are not required to be proficient in the state language. This information was announced by Temirlan Sultanbekov, the leader of the "Social Democrats" party, who was the initiator of the appeal to the court.

According to the politician, the Supreme Court effectively annulled the law that mandates state officials to know the Kyrgyz language.

Temirlan Sultanbekov expressed his dissatisfaction, stating: "Unfortunately, these elections have become a clear violation of the law. Article 59 of the election law clearly states that every deputy must know the state language. Why was this law then adopted? Why was it signed?"

As reported by 24.kg, the Supreme Court clarified that Sultanbekov had previously attempted twice to challenge the actions of the Central Election Commission in the Administrative Court of Bishkek. He insisted on recognizing the illegal registration of candidates who had not undergone a language proficiency test and demanded the annulment of their registration.

According to information from the Supreme Court, the first appeal was left without movement due to the lack of specific details and dates of the contested decisions. In the second case, the court denied the request to annul the registration.

Upon resubmitting the application, the deficiencies were not corrected. The court also rejected the demand for a language proficiency check for candidates before registration, noting that this request was not subject to consideration.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the previous instance, only annulling the point regarding the return of Temirlan Sultanbekov's application due to uncorrected deficiencies. The court reiterated that this demand was also not subject to further examination.
