The Karakol Zoo covers 7.5 hectares and is the only zoo in Kyrgyzstan located in the city of Karakol. It was founded in 1987. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the zoo faced funding issues, leading to a shortage of food for the animals. Concerned citizens and a German nature conservation association came to the rescue.
