He noted that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, control over milk and meat production significantly weakened, leading to the closure of many dairy factories and a decrease in the use of silage.
“Previously, there were clear planned indicators for livestock, and specialists would create rations for animals. Nowadays, however, farmers act at their own risk,” Chotonov emphasized.
According to him, silage is the main source for increasing milk yields.
“Even with the use of dry feeds, the productivity of cows drops by several percent without the presence of silage,” he added.
The expert also pointed to the revival of the practice of making silage in the country, which is especially relevant for regions with high temperatures and mountainous conditions, where pasture feeds may not always provide the necessary level of milk productivity.
Chotonov stressed that the proper use of silage in winter and summer helps stabilize the quality and quantity of milk, as well as supports the overall development of the dairy industry.
