On December 5, the day dedicated to soils, the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after Skryabin became a venue for a scientific and practical conference. This event was organized with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
More than 95% of our food comes from the soil; however, it faces serious problems such as degradation, erosion, and irrational resource use, which was emphasized by Oleg Guchgeldiev, FAO representative in Kyrgyzstan.
The 2025 campaign is held under the slogan "Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities," focusing on the importance of soil in urban settings and the issues related to their "sealing" and urbanization.

Ermek Baibagyshov, director of the Society of Soil Scientists of Kyrgyzstan, emphasized that "soil sealing, pollution, and urban expansion threaten essential ecosystem functions, increasing risks and intensifying the 'heat island' effect in urban environments."
During the conference, participants discussed possible solutions, including "unsealing" soils covered by asphalt and concrete, creating "green" roofs, as well as environmentally sound projects for greening and urban agriculture. These measures can turn soil into a powerful tool for combating climate change, improving quality of life and public health, as well as reducing disaster risks and forming inclusive and eco-friendly cities.
As part of the event, an exhibition of modern technologies was also organized, where the FAO presented the "Soil Doctors" initiative—an international program aimed at training farmers in sustainable land management practices.
