The Ministry of Natural Resources of Kyrgyzstan proposed biodiversity initiatives at the CITES conference.

The 20th Conference of the Parties to CITES is taking place in Samarkand, with a delegation from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan participating. The press service of the ministry announced this on December 1.

During the conference, initiatives for biodiversity conservation and the national CITES database were presented. The delegation also proposed the inclusion of all six official UN languages in the processes of the CITES Convention.

Working meetings were held at the event with the leadership of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), where opportunities for cooperation were discussed, as well as with the regional office of WWF in Central Asia to develop programs for the conservation of the snow leopard.

The conference will continue until December 5, 2025.

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement aimed at ensuring that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. It was adopted to prevent threats to the survival of these species as a result of international trade. The convention came into effect on July 1, 1975.
