In Bishkek, the national program for biodiversity until 2040 has been approved
Among the organizers of the event were the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, the Global Environment Facility, and the United Nations Development Program in Kyrgyzstan.
This program is considered the main strategic document in the field of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the Kyrgyz Republic.
The development of the State Program (NBSAP) was carried out in accordance with the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biodiversity (GFBB), adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Based on global goals for 2030, the State Program (NBSAP) sets a long-term vision, strategic goals, and key directions for biodiversity conservation, as well as the integration of these aspects into national planning and rational use of natural resources. The development of the State Program was supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The process of its creation included extensive consultations with participants from government agencies, the scientific community, civil society, and development partners.
Deputy Minister Almaz Musaev emphasized the importance of creating a transparent and scientifically justified monitoring and reporting system for the successful implementation of the program:
"The establishment of such a system is a key point. It should become the basis for management decisions and a tool for controlling the implementation of the State Program until 2040 and the Action Plan until 2030."
Alexandra Solovyeva, the UNDP Resident Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that this state program will allow the country to "conserve and rationally use its natural resources, including mountain forests, pastures, water ecosystems, and rare species."
During the preparation and discussion of the program, participants raised important and relevant issues that require solutions and intervention.
As a result of the seminar, participants agreed on the draft State Program and prepared a resolution with key proposals. Considering the agreements reached, the final draft will be sent to the Cabinet of Ministers for further consideration and approval.
Note: The Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biodiversity was adopted by 196 countries in December 2022. It includes a plan for large-scale actions to create a world where people live in harmony with nature and covers four periods until 2050.
