The mayor announced a competition for development projects of Bishkek until 2040


An open competition has been announced for the project concept of the development model of Bishkek until 2040. This was reported today, May 14, on the Facebook page of Mayor Kubanychbek Kulmatov.

"The grand prize is $70,000. The competition is organized through the joint efforts of the Bishkek City Hall, the Union of Engineers and Architects of the Turkic World, and the Union of Architects of the Kyrgyz Republic. We expect interesting ideas and concepts for the urban development of the city from the participants, which would reflect the cultural and historical heritage. After the competition, the Bishkek City Hall will continue working with participants on the partial or full implementation of the presented ideas with further urban planning developments. Thus, we will all be able to lay the foundation for a new Bishkek," writes Kulmatov.

According to the website of the capital's city hall, the competition is held as part of the 6th Kurultai of Architecture, Engineering, and Urban Planning of the Turkic World, initiated, decided, and supported by the executive committee of the kurultai and the Bishkek City Hall.

The following goals of the competition are also outlined:

• to obtain new ideas and conceptual projects for the urban development of the city, taking into account socio-economic, historical-cultural, regional, and landscape-ecological features, and to pass them on to future generations; to provide recommendations for urban development;

• to consider various approaches with alternative views on the current situation;

• to examine ideas that correspond to the status of the capital and give it uniqueness and attractiveness;

• to discuss various ideas and concepts.

Registration for the competition ends at 5:00 PM on June 30, 2014.

According to the results of the competition, the following prizes will be awarded: first place - 150,000 Turkish lira, second place - 70,000 Turkish lira, third place - 30,000 Turkish lira. There are also four encouragement prizes of 10,000 Turkish lira each. The exchange rate of the lira is approximately 25.2 soms.
