Australia has become the first country in the world to ban access to social networks for children
Today, Australia took a historic step, becoming the first country in the world to restrict access to social networks for children under 16 years old. The new law came into effect at midnight local time, as reported by Reuters.

According to the new rules, the ten most popular platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, are required to block access for minors, or they face fines of up to 33 million dollars.

This week, Australian schools will host a speech by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who will emphasize the importance of this ban in reducing stress among children due to news and social media algorithms.

He urged students to use the upcoming holidays wisely: “Spend this time not in front of screens, but engaging in sports, learning a new musical instrument, or reading a book that has long been waiting for its moment,” Albanese noted.

At the same time, all platforms, except for X, confirmed their readiness to comply with the new requirements.
