The Maldives has become the first country in the world to introduce a nationwide ban on smoking for young people, as reported by Kazinform, citing the BBC.
According to information provided by the authorities, the ban applies to everyone born after January 1, 2007, including tourists. The country's Ministry of Health confirmed that for this group of the population, both the purchase and smoking of tobacco products will become illegal. This step is aimed at protecting young people from the negative consequences of smoking, emphasized representatives of the ministry.

The Deputy Chairman of the Tobacco Control Council of the Republic of Maldives, Ahmed Afaal, noted in an interview with the BBC that the previously introduced ban on vaping is a significant step towards creating a generation free from tobacco addiction.
It is important to note that the new law covers all types of tobacco products, and retailers are required to check the age of their customers.
