The new law includes strict measures regarding the purchase, sale, and consumption of tobacco products. It also applies to tourists on the territory of the Maldives.
It is worth noting that in 2022, New Zealand became the first country in the world to introduce a lifetime ban on the sale of tobacco to people born after 2008. However, less than two years later, this law was repealed due to the increase in the illegal tobacco market.
Currently, similar initiatives are being discussed in several other countries, at various stages of consideration.
