A law has come into effect in the Maldives that imposes a complete ban on the use of tobacco products for individuals born on January 1, 2007, and later. This means they are prohibited not only from purchasing but also from using and selling any tobacco products.

According to The Guardian, the restrictions apply to all forms of tobacco products, including cigarettes, shisha tobacco, as well as electronic smoking devices.

Retailers are now required to check the age of their customers before selling tobacco products, and violations of these rules are subject to fines and administrative measures.

It is also worth noting that the new regulations apply not only to local citizens but also to tourists present in the Maldives.

Thus, the Maldives has become one of the first countries in the world to establish a lifetime smoking ban for a specific generation.
