Starting December 4, Instagram will begin blocking accounts of Australian users under the age of 16. This decision is a result of a new law that imposes restrictions on children's access to social networks in Australia.

Teenagers using Instagram, Facebook, and Threads are already receiving notifications about the upcoming closure of their accounts. The law prohibiting social media for children under 16 will come into effect on December 10.

According to Antigone Davis, Vice President of Meta, the company that manages these platforms, the process of removing users aged 13 to 15 will be multi-stage. "We are doing everything we can to complete this process by December 10; however, compliance with the law will take time," she noted.

The ban also affects other social networks such as TikTok, YouTube, X, and Reddit. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that this step is "world-leading" and aimed at "allowing children to be children." Despite criticism from Meta and other companies, they have expressed their readiness to comply with the new rules.
