Training Costs
There are more than 300 driving schools operating in Kyrgyzstan, offering courses for those wishing to obtain a driver's license. The cost of training ranges from 16,000 to 20,000 soms, while practical driving lessons cost between 600 and 900 soms per lesson. In total, the program includes 15–25 practical lessons, depending on the specific school. Typically, training lasts about 2.5 months.
Many driving schools offer installment plans, allowing payments to be divided into three parts. This practice existed before, but now, according to representatives of one school, more people are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.
Thus, the total cost of the course, including practical lessons, can vary from 25,000 to 43,000 soms. If trainees decide to practice on simulators, the cost may increase.
Situation with Enrollment
Representatives of educational centers note that enrollments are closing significantly faster than usual, and some driving schools have suspended registration until January.Meanwhile, those who do not manage to register by the end of December are puzzled about how the new training system, which will last more than a year, will be organized. The Presidential Administration promises to present the new course program by November 20 to clarify the training process.
Among the key changes, in addition to the 14-month training, there will be an increase in the theoretical course to 384 hours, and practical training will be conducted in various weather conditions—future drivers will prepare for driving in rain, snow, and heat. The number of exam questions will also increase from 700 to 2,000–3,000, which will raise the level of preparation. Exam grading will be conducted using artificial intelligence, allowing for the complete digitization of the system.
According to the State Agency for Vehicle Registration and Driver Licensing, 60,076 driver's licenses were issued in Kyrgyzstan in 2024. Of these, 16,932 people passed the theoretical exam on their first attempt, and 7,660 on their second. The rest either retook the exam several times or were unable to pass it.
