Will there be corruption in driving schools? Expert on 14-month training
The expert pointed out that the state is taking responsibility for the quality of training and the process of issuing driver's licenses. "Although the fight against corruption is actively ongoing, it is difficult to guarantee that corrupt schemes will disappear. In our country, where everything becomes known quickly, any violation can provoke public discontent," said Kasmambetova.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the functioning of private driving schools remains an important issue. "In a market economy, closing private educational institutions would be wrong. If state driving schools improve the quality of training, private ones simply won't be able to compete. People choose based on quality," she believes.
Kasmambetova also expressed the opinion that 14 months of training is a long time. "However, each state has the right to make decisions based on its circumstances. In Kyrgyzstan, the number of road traffic accidents with serious consequences is not decreasing. One serious accident can take the lives of entire families. Measures to increase fines are insufficient; the problem needs to be addressed comprehensively. Perhaps this is why the state started reforms with driving schools and plans to involve 11th-grade students in driving training," she added.
"It is planned that starting next year, all 11th graders will undergo driving training. This is a positive change. Future drivers must be prepared for various conditions, especially considering that all seasons are distinctly expressed in Kyrgyzstan. Many drivers do not know how to handle driving on icy roads," the expert emphasized.
Earlier, it was reported that there has been a surge in those wishing to enroll in courses at private driving schools, as people are eager to complete their training in 2.5 months in order to finish by December and study under the old rules.
