The expert clarified the situation

The number of foreign students in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 31% over the past year. The situation was commented on by Almaz Tajybay, an education specialist, who spoke about the possible reasons for this phenomenon and the future of educational tourism in the country.
According to the expert, the decline in the number of students may be related to a new law that was adopted in Kyrgyzstan. He noted that the requirements for the licensing of higher educational institutions have become stricter. Additionally, the organization of the education system has affected the situation. One of the most in-demand fields is medicine, which is now associated with the requirements of the Kyrgyz State Medical University (KSMU). Furthermore, there is an increase in the control over compliance with visa regulations: it is being checked whether students are actually studying or working, rather than just being enrolled on paper, Tajybay added.
The expert emphasizes that the quality of education is more important than the quantity of students.
“There is also information that after the successful implementation of the electronic journal in schools, a similar system is planned to be introduced in universities. There are about 70 higher educational institutions operating in Kyrgyzstan. With the help of this electronic system, without the involvement of law enforcement agencies, it will be possible to monitor student attendance. This is necessary for the formation of an educational and professional environment, as well as for preventing fraud and deception. Otherwise, there may be problems in the fields of education and medicine. It will now be more difficult to engage in diploma falsification and issue fake documents,” noted Almaz Tajybay.
He also added that employees of the State National Security Committee (GKNB) are present at the level of deputy ministers in each ministry.
“This means that control over order is being maintained. Such a measure is necessary to combat corruption in this sector,” concluded the expert.
