The couple is celebrating their 60th anniversary of married life, having tied the knot in 1964.
Alymbubu was born in the village of Özgörüş, also in the Bakai-Ata district.
“When I was young, I came to Keng-Aral to visit a relative. There, Ömür noticed me and immediately showed interest. I also paid attention to him. He first expressed his feelings to my relative, and she conveyed his words to me. That’s how we got married. My mother-in-law lived with us and passed away at the age of 94,” she shared.
This family has three sons, three daughters, 18 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
“I worked in the collective farm in the tobacco fields, then in a kindergarten. Together with my husband, we also herded cattle in the pasture. He is a very hardworking and kind person, and throughout all these years, we have not had any serious conflicts,” added A. Kurmanbekova.
She recalled how, at the beginning of their family life, she faced misunderstandings:
“We had an acquaintance who sometimes raised his hand against his wife. She would come to our house, hiding from him. Later, I would escort her back. One day, I decided to visit my husband’s older brother, and they began to worry that something was wrong between me and my husband. I spent the whole evening with them, even though Ömür and I had no problems. The situation with that acquaintance apparently raised their concerns, and relatives asked if there had been any violence on his part. In reality, I was just spending time with my husband’s younger relatives, playing with them. At one point, Ömür came and asked why I wasn’t at home. He offered to take me to my relatives himself if I wanted,” she shared.
According to Alymbubu, last year their children organized a big celebration for her husband's 90th birthday and her own 80th birthday. “Ömür and I sat at the head of the table like newlyweds. It was very fun,” she added.
