Today, at a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on science, education, and culture, it was announced that the requirements for the production of local films in Kyrgyzstan are being raised.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy, Marat Tagaev, emphasized that the domestic film industry continues to develop. However, according to him, each studio currently determines independently which films to produce, and scripts are approved solely by the artistic council.

The new initiative includes the creation of an artistic-expert council within the Department of Cinematography, which will be responsible for defining the film repertoire. It is also planned that the National Council on Cinematography, under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister, will oversee the general directions in this field. In collaboration with the institutions "Kyrgyzfilm," "Kyrgyzserial," and the Department of Cinematography, necessary regulatory legal acts are being developed to improve the quality of cinema.

Tagaev noted that funding for cinematography in the country was about 100 million soms until 2020, and by 2025-2026, this amount will increase to 1 billion soms. "This tenfold increase indicates a growing interest in film production, but it also raises questions about the quality of the content being created," he added.
