At least 60% of the content must be in the Kyrgyz language
The content check of all television channels in Kyrgyzstan will begin in March 2026, as reported by Marat Tagaev, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy.
This initiative aims to ensure compliance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic, which stipulates that at least 60% of program content must be in the state language.
According to Tagaev, "the closure of channels is not currently planned. If necessary, content can be purchased from 'Kyrgyzfilm' and 'Kyrgyzserial'. However, appropriate measures will be taken in case of violations."
It is worth noting that there are 42 television channels operating in the country, of which only two — NTRK and ELTR — are state-owned.
