In Kyrgyzstan, there are currently 300 mediators who have processed approximately 1,300 cases over the past seven years. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Justice Orozbek Sydykov on the program "Birinchi Radio."

Mediation is a method of conflict resolution involving a neutral intermediary — the mediator. This specialist helps the parties reach an agreement.

As Sydykov noted, to become a mediator in Kyrgyzstan, one must be a citizen of the country, at least 25 years old, have a higher education, and undergo special training, after which they must register in the mediator registry.

Legislation on mediation was introduced in 2017 and came into effect in 2018. On November 14, President Sadyr Japarov signed an updated version of the law "On Mediation," which will come into force on December 3.

With the implementation of the new law, a list of categories of cases that mediators will be able to handle will be compiled. The Deputy Minister also noted that the court can refer cases to a mediator, and if the issue remains unresolved, the case can be returned to the court.
