Starting from January 18, 2026, new rules regarding content created using artificial intelligence, including deepfakes, will come into effect in Kazakhstan. These regulations require mandatory labeling of so-called AI content, which must be both machine-readable and visually noticeable, indicating the synthetic nature of the material. These requirements apply to media outlets and all internet resources.

The responsibility for compliance with these norms lies with the owners of AI systems, as well as users who distribute content without the appropriate labeling. The following measures are provided for violations:

- administrative fines ranging from 15 to 100 MRP, depending on the status of the offender;

- fines for disseminating false information, amounting to between 20 and 100 MRP;

- criminal liability, including a fine of up to 3000 MRP or imprisonment for up to 3 years, in cases where a deepfake causes significant harm or threatens public order.

The main goal of the new law is to protect citizens from misinformation, ensure transparency in the use of AI in the media sphere, and create legal mechanisms to combat false content.
