Starting from January 1, 2026, updated rules will come into effect, according to which all foreigners planning to travel to Georgia are required to have a valid medical and accident insurance policy for the entire duration of their stay.
This requirement is established in accordance with Georgian legislation in the field of tourism and applies to trips for both tourist and business or private purposes.
The policy can be issued by either a Georgian or a foreign insurance company and must be presented in paper or electronic format in Georgian or English.
The minimum amount of insurance coverage is 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL). The policy must include the following mandatory elements:
— parties to the contract;
— territory to which the policy applies;
— subject of insurance;
— dates of the start and end of the insurance coverage;
— risks covered by the insurance;
— amount that can be claimed under the insurance;
— amount of the insurance premium;
— payment terms.
In light of the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends that citizens of Kyrgyzstan planning trips to Georgia familiarize themselves with the new rules in advance. It is also important to consider possible additional requirements from transport companies and border services, and to arrange medical insurance before the trip. It is advisable to have insurance documents in paper form, as they may be required when passing through border control.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasizes the importance of complying with migration legislation, which includes having a valid foreign passport, a return ticket, proof of accommodation booking, and, of course, an insurance policy.
