The law stipulates that the insurance policy must be valid for the entire duration of the foreigners' stay in the country, and document checks will be conducted at all border points.
According to the new rules, the insurance must include:
- emergency outpatient services amounting to at least $5,000;
- inpatient treatment amounting to at least $30,000;
- coverage for accidents, injuries, and sudden illnesses;
- medical evacuation and repatriation.
The following fines are imposed for not having a valid policy:
- 300 lari for entering without insurance;
- 500-1,000 lari for engaging in mountaineering, skiing, or other extreme activities without appropriate insurance;
- 1,000-2,000 lari for repeated violations;
- late fines may increase two or three times.
It is also worth noting that from October 1, 2025, stricter measures regarding increased fines and simplified deportation procedures for foreigners who violate their stay periods in the country have come into effect in Georgia.
