According to the government decree, an experiment on the collection of biometric data from foreign citizens and stateless persons crossing the state border will begin in Russia on December 1, 2025. This process will take place at border crossing points where the necessary technical capabilities are available, reports RIA Novosti.
The document states that the experiment will last from 00:00 on December 1, 2025, to 23:59 on June 30, 2026. The goal is to collect biometric information from foreign citizens and stateless persons when crossing the border at the specified points.
From December 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026, foreigners and stateless persons will be required to undergo biometric registration at the international airports of Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, as well as at the Zhukovsky airport in the Moscow region and at the Machtakovo automobile border crossing point in the Orenburg region when crossing the border into Russia.
Additionally, starting from June 30, 2025, foreigners traveling without visas will need to fill out an electronic application no later than 72 hours before their planned entry into Russia.
