Mandatory insurance policy
Starting January 1, 2026, new entry rules will be introduced in Georgia that apply to all foreign citizens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has announced the necessity of having a valid medical and accident insurance policy for the entire duration of stay in the country.
These changes have been implemented in accordance with Georgian legislation in the field of tourism and cover trips for tourism, business, and personal purposes,” the ministry noted.
The insurance policy can be obtained from insurance companies in Georgia or abroad. It must be presented in Georgian or English in either paper or electronic format.
The minimum amount of insurance coverage is 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL). The policy must include the following mandatory elements:
- the parties to the insurance contract;
- the geographical area of the policy;
- the subject of insurance;
- the dates of commencement and expiration;
- insurance risks;
- the amount of compensation;
- the size of the insurance premium;
- the terms and place of payment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan recommends that its citizens planning to travel to Georgia familiarize themselves with the new entry rules in advance and consider possible additional requirements from carriers and border guards. It is also strongly advised to obtain medical insurance before the trip begins. It is recommended to have all documents in printed form, as they may be required during border control.
Additionally, the ministry emphasizes the importance of complying with migration regulations, including having a valid foreign passport, a return ticket, and confirmation of accommodation booking, as well as the insurance policy.
