From January 1, 2026, new requirements will come into effect in Georgia for foreign citizens planning to visit the country. According to information provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, all entrants must have a valid health insurance policy, as well as accident insurance for the entire duration of their stay in Georgia.
These new conditions have been established in accordance with Georgian legislation regarding the tourism sector and apply to trips for both tourist and business or private purposes.
The insurance policy can be obtained from both Georgian and foreign insurance companies and must be provided in Georgian or English in either paper or electronic format. The minimum amount of insurance coverage must be at least 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL). Important elements that must be specified in the policy include:
- parties to the contract;
- territory of coverage;
- subject of insurance;
- validity period of the policy;
- insurance risks;
- amount of compensation;
- amount of insurance premium;
- terms and place of payment.
In light of the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends that citizens of Kyrgyzstan planning trips to Georgia familiarize themselves in advance with the new rules, consider possible additional requirements from carriers and border services, and arrange for health insurance before the start of their journey. Having these documents in paper form is important, as they may be required during border control.
Furthermore, the ministry reminds of the necessity to comply with migration legislation, which includes having a valid foreign passport, a return ticket, and confirmation of accommodation booking.
