According to the new requirements that will come into effect at the beginning of 2026, foreign citizens will be required to have a medical and accident insurance policy valid for the entire duration of their stay in Georgia.
This measure is adopted as part of Georgia's tourism legislation and covers trips for various reasons: personal, business, or tourist.
The policy can be issued by both local and foreign insurance companies and must be provided either in paper or electronic format in Georgian or English.
The minimum amount of insurance coverage must be at least 30,000 Georgian Lari (GEL). The insurance policy must include the following mandatory information:
— parties to the contract;
— territory of validity;
— object of insurance;
— dates of commencement and termination of insurance coverage;
— risks to be insured;
— amount of insurance compensation;
— amount of insurance premium;
— place and conditions of payment.
In light of the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends that citizens of Kyrgyzstan planning trips to Georgia familiarize themselves in advance with the new entry requirements. It is also advisable to consider possible additional conditions from airlines and border services, and it is better to arrange medical insurance before the trip begins. It is recommended to have documents in paper form, as they may be required during border control.
Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes the importance of complying with migration legislation, which includes having a valid foreign passport, insurance policy, return ticket, and proof of accommodation booking.
The main purpose of this information is to clarify the new rules; however, it cannot guarantee automatic entry into Georgia, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes.
