The Senate of Kazakhstan has approved an amendment to the Criminal Code in its second reading, which increases the responsibility for attacks on medical workers, including doctors, paramedics, and ambulance drivers. Now, such crimes carry a punishment of up to 12 years of imprisonment. The law is expected to be signed by the president, reports Tengrinews.kz.

In the new version of Article 380-3, there is a clear distinction between different types of threats and violence: those not dangerous to life and health, and those that are dangerous. Each of these acts will be punished under separate articles.

If there is an attack on medical workers that does not pose a threat to life, the punishment may include:

If the violence has led to dangerous consequences for health or life:

As reported by Tengrinews.kz, in the first version of the bill, some punishment measures were more severe.

According to media reports, cases of attacks on medical workers have been occurring for several years.

In Kyrgyzstan, the problem of attacks on medical workers is also acute. To protect the rights of medical personnel and other officials in the country, measures of punishment for such incidents were tightened in November 2025. For hooliganism against individuals performing their official duties, the Criminal Code provides for a fine of 50,000 to 100,000 soms or imprisonment for a term of three to five years.
