The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has presented its initiatives for crisis response in 2026, including 32 key projects aimed at providing assistance in various countries and regions.
According to information from the UN News Service, these plans are aimed at supporting 22.7 million people, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and the communities hosting them. To implement these measures, $2.5 billion will be required.
In 2026, IOM focused its efforts on the most pressing needs. Although the funding request amounts to $2.5 billion, which is lower compared to previous years, this does not indicate a decrease in needs. Limited resources will be directed to assist in the most critical situations, to the most vulnerable populations, and to operations that can save lives and improve stability in communities, while remaining flexible to expand assistance as additional funds become available, the organization notes in its statement.
The current challenges are extensive: in Sudan, nearly one in three people has been forced to leave their home since the conflict began. This year, IOM plans to raise $170 million to assist 1.3 million Sudanese suffering from the consequences of war. The organization emphasizes support for local communities and institutions, investing in their capacity to provide quality services and ensure a more sustainable and locally oriented response to the crisis.
