According to a statement from the United Nations, a sum of $2.3 billion will be needed to assist 4.1 million of the most vulnerable citizens of Ukraine in 2026. The humanitarian appeal was made against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict.

Since 2022, the UN, together with partners, has been actively supporting people suffering from the consequences of the war in Ukrainian cities, especially those near the front line, as well as those who have been forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in safer regions.

The UN humanitarian coordinator in Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, noted that among those in need are internally displaced persons who have been living in collective centers for two to three years, as well as elderly people and individuals with limited mobility.

An important aspect of the humanitarian plan for 2026 is not only the provision of food and medical services, housing, and financial support, but also assistance in evacuating people in danger.

Matthias Schmale emphasizes that funding is necessary to support civilian initiatives that help those affected, including farmers facing difficulties due to the war, and cancer patients who have encountered problems accessing treatment due to attacks on medical facilities in the country, especially within 50 kilometers of the contact line.

“We appeal to the international community, UN member states, and other potential donors to continue supporting Ukraine and express their solidarity through financial assistance,” Schmale added.
