Dayirbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the presidential administration, spoke about a new initiative regarding the duration of driver training. He noted that the 10-month course was established with the aim of significantly increasing road safety and reducing the number of fatalities.

Despite the explanatory measures, society continues to ask questions about the length of training. Orunbekov emphasized that all new norms are designed to ensure better preparation of drivers.

“Only trained drivers, possessing the necessary knowledge and skills, can guarantee safety for themselves and others. Unfortunately, due to untrained drivers who buy licenses, many people die every year,” he added.

The head of the service noted that the reforms are not intended to create additional obstacles for citizens. The main focus of the changes is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and protect people's lives.

Orunbekov explained that the training program includes both theory and practice. Classes will not be held daily, but two to three times a week for 2-3 hours, with the possibility of online training.

The updated course will also introduce elements of psychological preparation and the study of road ethics. “A lack of driving culture and displays of aggression often lead to accidents,” he emphasized.

According to him, in developed countries, the time to obtain a driver's license ranges from 6 months to 1-2 years. For example, in Finland, the training process can last up to one year, after which the driver is issued a temporary license. “There is a very high level of responsibility for driving there, which significantly reduces the accident rate,” Orunbekov noted.

Additionally, he provided statistical data on traffic accidents in Kyrgyzstan. In 2025, over 8,400 accidents were recorded, resulting in the deaths of about 900 people and injuring more than 12,000. Over the past ten years, more than 9,000 people have died in traffic accidents in the country.

“Kyrgyzstan is among the countries with a high level of fatalities from traffic accidents. It is necessary to change this situation. All measures being taken are aimed at protecting the health and well-being of citizens,” he concluded.

Orunbekov also noted that video materials demonstrating ignorance of traffic rules are a consequence of the previous corrupt system in the issuance of driver's licenses, which confirms the need for reforms.
