According to Abdyzhaparkul Janbolotov, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure in Bishkek, the asphalt laying on the bridge is scheduled for the end of February or the beginning of March. He emphasized that the bridge has been closed since the end of September 2025 due to its emergency condition.

Previously, the city hall reported plans for a complete replacement of the load-bearing elements and widening of the roadway during the reconstruction. Janbolotov explained that the work began at the end of the year to avoid chaos on the streets.

“We have planned the construction and reconstruction of three bridges: on Shukurova Street, Auezov Street, and Jibek Jolu Avenue. If we had started repairing all the facilities at the same time, it would have created significant problems for traffic. At that time, repairs were being carried out on Kurmanjan Datka Street, and work was ongoing on the bridge on Auezov Street near Chuy Avenue. Therefore, we decided to close Jibek Jolu Avenue only after completing these works,” he noted.

From September to December, work was carried out on the bridge. The concrete work was completed in December, and the process of gaining strength is currently ongoing. Last week, laboratory tests were conducted, which confirmed that the required strength has not yet been achieved.

“The inability to open the passage at 90% strength is explained by the fact that this is not just about laying asphalt. The bridge must serve for a long time. If we opened it in winter and cracks appeared, we would face criticism. It’s better to wait a little. Next week we will start laying and concrete works, such as installing curbs and parapets. Weather permitting, we will begin laying asphalt at the end of February – beginning of March, adhering to all technological requirements,” the official concluded.
